On Thursday afternoon, just after lunch, we got whacked.
BBB is located in the Idaho Statesman building on Curtis Road. During a test of the emergency backup system, a surge crashed the internet and phone service to a portion of the building including Statesman, Les Bois Credit Union and Better Business Bureau.
According to Mike Dodson, BBB IT, the emergency power generator surged causing the modem to crash, causing a dead zone.
The lines were down from about 2 p.m. until later Thursday afternoon. Individuals could still access bbb.org since it is hosted at a different site.
“It was one of those things where everything worked,” Dodson says. “The modem did exactly what it was programmed to do. It shut down and protected the system.”
